EDTE 117A- Group #3

We loved the video! Here's what our class thought were the key points covered:

ADHD Epidemic
-Not an epidemic. Children are being medicated.
-Students easily distracted by technology.
-ADHD increased with standardized testing and increased as you go East in the US.
Current Education Structure
-Focused on standardized testing and individual work which can take students away from their best learning environment.
-Current education plan built for a different era
-Factory lines- manufacture seperate subjects, batches of kids by age.
Aesthetic Experience
-in the moment, fully engaged (thinking and feeling)
-Anaesthetic is the opposite- putting kids to sleep
College Degree
-go to school=get a degree=get a job, but not any more
-Education was built on the idea of the industrialization which became outdated
Economy
-How do we educate for futrue economy? We don't know what it will look like in the future!
Divergent Thinking
-Ability to see lots of different types of answers
-We all have the capacity for divergent thinking and it deteriorates as we become more educated and are told ther's onl one answer.
Academic Abilities
-non-academic vs academic
-smart people think they aren't smart.
-most people don't benefit from our current education system.
